Artist Statement

I dance…

because it is in my veins; from my adoration of music and performance to

the love of seeing a performance piece come together.

I dance…

because it is my voice and because it advocates for the voice of others.

I dance…

for my mother, who encourage me to educate myself on African American dance  icons such as Katherine Dunham and who believed in me enough to place me in schools that would educate me on not only my movement, but on how to draw inspiration from my past, my people’s history.

I dance…

for God and in gratitude for creating me with art in mind.

I dance…

for the exploration of the body.

I dance…

for me.
